DHS Training

The Child Welfare Partnership Training Program delivers comprehensive child welfare training that enhances outcomes and services to the most vulnerable and at risk children and families. The Partnership's professional training staff provides basic and advanced training for Oregon’s Department of Human Services child welfare workers and foster, kinship and adoptive parents.

Located at the Partnership's Salem Center office on the campus of Chemeketa Community College (Map of Salem Center), the Training Program offers a full slate of state-of-the-art instructional opportunities.

Classroom Training

Training for child welfare staff employed by DHS includes:

  • Child Welfare Core Training (four weeks of classroom, integrating three previously distinct trainings: the Introduction to Casework Practice, Child Protective Services Core and Legal Issues)
  • Certifier and Adoption Worker Training
  • Social Service Assistants Training
  • Freeing and Placing Children for Adoption
  • Supervisory Training (to be implemented in 2007-09 biennium)
  • Selected Advanced Trainings

Distance Delivery Training

The Partnership offers synchronous training using DHS’s NetLink system. This allows staff, caregivers and community partners to participate in training from their desks – at home or the office. For more information visit the Partnership’s NetLink Central – www.cwpsalem.pdx.edu/netlink

Foster, Adopt, Relative Parent Training

The Partnership provides extensive educational opportunities for foster, relative and adoptive parents. Partnership training staff work extensively with Foster Care Certifiers and Adoption Workers as well as with foster parent associations to identify needs related to ongoing training for provider families.
